The History Of Batman Day

Batman Day

If there was ever a superhero who deserved their own holiday, Batman would be at the top of the list. Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger in 1939, The Caped Crusader first appeared in Detective Comics before getting his own series. Today, he’s a global phenomenon with decades of movies, TV shows, comics, and video games. Now, Batman Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of September each year. This year, that means September 18. With that said, here is the history of Batman Day.

Celebrating Batman

Batman Day is a holiday hosted by DC Entertainment to promote their star character. However, while Batman has been around for years, Batman Day is a new holiday. In fact, the first Batman Day was only in 2014. This was done to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Batman’s first appearance, back in Detective Comics

Batman’s first appearance was not in September. Instead, DC Entertainment chose to schedule it for September to line up with San Diego Comic-Con. Special merchandise was created and sold to commemorate the legendary character, and each year brings new surprises.

Batman Day 2021

DC Entertainment has plenty planned for this year’s Batman Day. Two of their main features will be Batman: The Audio Adventures, and  Batman: The World. The first is a scripted podcast starring Jeffrey Wright as Batman, with ten episodes of thrilling adventure. Batman: The World is a massive anthology with over 180 pages of content from a myriad of artists and writers. Other plans include a Fortnite crossover comic, a Batman series on Webtoons, and more.
