The Perfect Weekend Plan: A Jurassic Park Marathon!

The Perfect Weekend Plan: A Jurassic Park Marathon!

The weekend is within reach, and nothing beats a good binge fest. The television stations know it, and Netflix, well, Netflix is the ultimate app for binging. We’ve all sat for hours in front of the TV watching Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. And before the release of a great movie like one in the Batman series, it would be wrong if you didn’t watch the others in the series beforehand.

When, though, was the last time you took the time to relive the excellence that is Jurassic Park? Yeah, it’s been a while for us too. Maybe it’s time to break out the prehistoric series for a binge session! We all have our favorite installment in the series, that’s for sure. Here’s why we’re picking Jurassic Park as our series of choice this weekend.

Reliving the 90s

Let’s face it: the 90s was arguably one of the best decades, and one of the reasons it ranks so high is because of the great films. Jurassic Park and The Lost World are included, of course, and will take us back in time. Comparing today’s films to the glory of the 90s is always a good time, which is why we’re starting our binge fest at the very beginning of the series.

Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs, and More Dinosaurs

Who can get enough of these prehistoric beasts? Maybe it’s because of their unfathomable size or the fact that they survived such volatile conditions (until they didn’t), but dinosaurs pique our interest. We can’t even begin to imagine living amongst such fierce animals, which is why Jurassic Park is such a great movie. We can live out our dreams— and worst nightmares— of living amongst the dinosaurs thanks to the Jurassic Park films.

The Book-Turned-Movie Argument

Movies are great, but the book can be better. This binge doesn’t just involve watching the movies. We might break out the books to compare differences and develop a viable argument for which did it better — the page or the big screen. We’re always up for a little good-natured debate, and we can’t think of a better subject matter than dinosaurs.

Science Nerds Unite

Another reason we’re starting at the beginning is that the thought of cloning dinosaurs and creating a park for them was just, well, unthinkable— especially in 1993. That’s one of the reasons the original Jurassic Park was such a huge success, and we love reliving the glory days. Everything from the reveal of the Brachiosaurus to the intensity of the regularly-scheduled human eating in Jurassic Park makes it a movie that defies the ages. This one isn’t for the faint at heart, that’s for sure, and we love it.

Mirroring Current Events

Cloning has been a bit of scientific debate for a while, which is one of the reasons Jurassic Park has held our interest over the years. In the 90s, Jurassic Park confirmed our worst possible fears about messing with nature, and the 2015 Jurassic World reconfirmed that once again. Cloning and genetic testing— scientific advancements we’re still on the fence about in the 21st century— and all the unknowns surrounding these issues make them incredibly interesting. And putting a worst-case-scenario with an incredibly smart, prehistoric creature at the forefront on the big screen? Well, what could go wrong?
